Engineered for Compliance

In 2024, the US EPA issued several regulations including the HON (Hazardous Organic NESHAP) Final Rules, in an effort to reduce the number of hazardous air pollutants. As of 2025, Cerex continues to monitor changing regulations surrounding EPA Hon Final Rules.

The UV SCOUT can detect, in under 5 seconds;

  • Benzene (MDL 3.0 ppb)
  • Chloroprene and 1,3-Butadiene (1.0 ppb MDL)
  • Ammonia, Nitric Oxide, Nitrogen Dioxide, Sulfur Dioxide, and more

The UV SCOUT complies with other US EPA regulations including:

  • HON Rule for Benzene, 1,3-Butadiene, Chloroprene, Ethylene Dichloride, Vinyl Chloride
  • 40 CFR § 63.658 / USEPA Method 325 A/B
  • SCAQMD Rule 1180
  • BAAQMD Refinery Regulation 12 Rule 15
  • USEPA TO-16
  • RCER-202

Our engineers are happy to discuss how we can help you meet other required regulations.

How it Works

Point UV-DOAS Technology

The Cerex UV SCOUT operates using a process known as point monitoring. Surrounding ambient gases are channeled into the analyzer where an internal cell holds the gas sample for analysis.

Next, with UV-DOAS technology, an ultraviolet light passes through the gas sample contained within the cell. Thanks to physics principles and Cerex’s proprietary software, the gas sample is translated into useable data.

Similar to the more expensive FTIR, UV-DOAS offers better detection limits at lower cost without interference from water vapor. Within seconds, any compounds present in the internal cell that are UV spectrum-detectable are identified and quantified according to their absorption from the ultraviolet light. Cerex’s Continuous Monitoring Software (CMS) outputs the data in real-time for instant results.
Raw data can be accessed remotely via phone, tablet, or computer.

The most cost-effective, permanent sampling & leak detection solution

Offering real time identification and quantification of criteria pollutants, the Hound analyzers provide a sensitive yet cost-effective solution in easy to operate, all-in-one packages.

Low maintenance and low detection limits

With only 3 consumables and the capability of simultaneous, single digit, parts-per-billion (ppb) detection levels of multiple compounds, the Hounds are the standard for ambient level detection.

Individual species of prolific hazardous air pollutants

Toxins such as Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylenes (BTEX) are known human carcinogens at ambient air levels. Our Hound analyzers are capable of simultaneously detecting these in addition to oxides of Nitrogen (NOx), CAFO emissions such as Ammonia (NH3) and Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S), Chlorine (Cl), and other volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) below hazardous levels.

Common Detectable Gases

Ultra Low Detection Limits

The Cerex UV SCOUT has as low as parts-per-billion minimum detection limits and wide dynamic ranges, allowing earlier and more thorough detection of gases than traditional sensor arrays. In comparison to outdated technologies, UV SCOUT analyzers feature multi-gas monitoring of individual species, lower detection limits, no water vapor interference, inherent calibration and no sensors to poison.

Inherent Calibration

The analyzer may calibrated insitu using calibration gas delivered from a dynamic calibrator or cylinder standard. Routine calibration is unnecessary for proper operation.

Targeted Library for Increased Value and Cost-Effectiveness

Contains 1 multi-purpose standard library suitable for monitoring of 23 compounds. Custom calibrations are available based on application. Additionally, ancillary sensors can be added for detection of other gases not available with UV-DOAS, such as Carbon Dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, Methane, and more.

Software

Results You Can Rely On

Cerex recognizes that detailed gas monitoring results need to be reliable and available quickly to various stakeholders. Consequently, Cerex engineers developed software to accurately detect and display gases within the air, in real-time, from any location.

With a Cerex SCOUT, a user can see results on the analyzer itself, or remotely via a phone, tablet, or computer anywhere in the world via a virtual connection. GPS and cellular configurations make this possible in isolated environments.

All data is automatically saved in an easy to access .csv file; this feature helps our clients in various ways - from daily use to crucial events such as evidence in court. Early detection translates into quicker response times, reduced environmental impact, decreased plant downtime, and reduced exposure to site personnel and the community.

Real time spectral subtraction and synthetic background implementation allow the UV Hound and Micro Hound to clearly display accurate concentrations of target gases over 1000 meters without interference from other gas species
